Sharing The Gospel With Other Religions

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15 (KJV)

When we witness the message of salvation found only in Jesus Christ with people from other religions we have to be culturally sensitive but keep in mind that the Lord commanded us to go into all the world and preach the gospel. We learn from this that the message we are preaching fits all cultures and peoples regardless of ethnicity, colour or culture, salvation fits all hearts. Salvation shines brightly and removes all darkness and empowers all the peoples to see the truth.

The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Psalm 24:1 (KJV)

Start to see all the peoples of the world belonging to the Lord not the devil, not other religions or cultural bondages, they belong to Adonai  El Elyon the Lord Most High God, Great and Mighty, they are His.  The problem has a solution; the people are lost in sin through the one man Adams iniquity. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22 (KJV).

You have the solution, you have the answer to those seekers of God who are bound in prisons of darkness ever seeking but never finding God. They daily follow paths that lead only to destruction and eventual damnation.

You yes you have the answer. You have found the key to life through the one mans sacrifice Jesus Christ. God the Son coming and laying down His life willingly becoming sin for them even though He knew no sin. Giving His righteousness as a free gift, the very righteousness of Holy God, Making us acceptable in the sight of an awesome creator God pure and holy allowing us to be His children and stand before His love, His Light, His consuming life and call Him father.

We have the solution Salvation, “oh” such a great eternal salvation found only in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

In grace and kindness and deep love reach out to these lost seekers of Father God and offer them the truth in love.

The Bible tells us to

And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Jude 22-23 (KJV)

What a fantastic Opportunity

The United Kingdom has become the cross road of the World, we need to understand the opportunity this presents to us as individual Christians and as UK Church Congregations.

The United Kingdom press coverage about foreigners coming into the United Kingdom are usually negative dirty stories about  scrounging of the state or being involved in benefit fraud or serious crime such as terrorism or people trafficking. These stories may be true but they cause hatred and bitterness in the population and are carried out by a very small minority. But amongst the UK Christian population we need to maintain our love and not let the stories we hear constantly in the press cause our love to grow cold towards the people of the world who come to our shores.

UK Christians need to rejoice that the people of the World are coming to us. It gives us an amazing opportunity to tell them about salvation found only in Jesus Christ!

How do we reach out to such a diverse number of different cultures and peoples?

You may be very surprised but it’s simple?

  1. We have to look at how the Lord Jesus Christ reached out to different people.
  2. We have to look at scriptural instructions on how to reach the people of the world.
  3. We have to see the working of the Law convicts the heart.
  4. The offer of Father God the gift of salvation and grace

Jesus commanded us:

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15 (KJV)

This shows that Father God’s vision was to reach all the people of the world with the message of salvation found only through accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour.

Jesus uses the word “creature” purposefully to overcome the evil prejudice that was prevalent at that time, people of different colour or appearance were considered to be less human.

Remember Adams seed was packed with all the nations and we all came out of those loins, our ancestors swam together as sperm and Adam was fruitful and reproduced all the different wonderful peoples of the earth.

Thank God that the lie of evolution has now been utterly disproved by the worlds leading academic establishments from Oxford to Yale. Leading world academics (over 600 with PhD’s) have signed a document stating that they can no longer accept the lie of evolution. They have done this not for religious reasons but because of the advancements made in all spheres of science over the last 20 years; these advancements have totally disproved it (see book and film review). Praise be to Father God.

Go into all the world

So we are to go into all the world (the entire world) and preach the gospel, but God has done a wonderful work in the United Kingdom, He has brought the world to us!

Lets imagine just for a moment, and ask the question why would God bring people to the UK form over 270 different nationalities speaking 300 plus different languages?

It sounds like the United Kingdom has become the modern tower of babel.  All the inhabitants of Babel were building a stairway to God in their own strength and their own works, following their own way. They were trying to reach God in their own self righteousness using their own wisdom.  It’s a picture of the world religions trying in their own ways to find God. But the only true way is through salvation found in Jesus Christ.

Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” John 14:6 (KJV)

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”   Acts 4:12 (KJV)

To build Babel the people used hand made bricks instead of cut stone and black tar instead of stone mortar. These materials are man made and not durable like stone and mortar which are “God-made” materials (His way). The people were building a monument to through their own good works and wisdom. They were trying to reach Father God in their own way instead of following Gods way; they received the glory instead of giving all the glory to Father God.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man (and appears straight before him), but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 16:25 (KJV)

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do (nothing will be impossible for them). Genesis 11:6 (KJV)

Remember when Christians are united in the truth of Gods word and not compromising in lazy universalism or other false teaching they can accomplish the impossible. This is why true unity in the body of Christ His people His Church are so important.

The curse was confused language, not understanding one another and division, Jesus Christ has reversed the curse and wants to bring the nations into His nation the Kingdom of God, His Church. He wants to restore the common language of all the nations with His Word and His salvation which is “Jesus Christ is Lord”.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Isaiah 2:2-3 (KJV)

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (a new being, a brand new creature altogether): old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

Jesus said: And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  Matthew 16:18 (KJV)

Now we understand that Father God is giving us a great opportunity to reach the world in the United Kingdom.

It’s hard to get an exact number of foreign nationals living in the UK as the government does not have exact figures but some claim it’s upward of 6.5 million.  If we can reach these people can you imagine how they would change the world?  We recently met a group of Iranian Muslims who had come to salvation in Christ, what a blessing, they were so committed to serving their saviour, praise God.

Can you see what a great opportunity we have?

Let’s deal with all the other religions of the world that need to be offered a clear reasoned presentation of the gospel.

In the United Kingdom it is estimated that other religions number approx. 4 million plus, its not a massive number compared to the 42 million people who identified themselves as Christians in the census and 9.1 million attending Church weekly.

How did Jesus reach out to different people?

  • Respect the person and remember that Father God loves that individual enough to send His Son to die on the Cross in their place paying the price for them with His own precious blood.
  • Point out the reason they need to be saved – share the law, explain they have broken Gods law and need to be forgiven, they need to find a solution to stop them going to eternal hell, explain that God has this solution and its available to everyone!
  • Never witness to their religion, avoid this battle ground, tell them your story, how you came to Christ, talk about Jesus, the salvation He offers.
  • Always witness to the heart of a person

Jesus Christ always dealt with the person, He always answered the heart. Many tried to get Him into religious or legal arguments but He always spoke to the heart.

We find a good example in the book of John 4:1-26, Jesus has compassion and talks to the Samaritan woman by the well who is living an immoral life, He offers her salvation:

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

The Samaritan woman wants this life but doesn’t grasp what Jesus was saying and responds:

The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

Jesus identifies the problem by bring in the Law (thou shall not commit adultery):

He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.” I have no husband,” she replied.

Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband.  The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

She becomes convicted by the law and in turn tries to get into a religious debate:

“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

Jesus brings the conversation back to the issue of dealing with sin and eternity:

“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.  You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”  (The woman had a expectation, a need in her heart only Jesus could fill)

Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

The end result is that both the woman and the whole village become followers of the Messiah Jesus Christ.

Always talk to the person’s heart and do not get into debates on whose religion is right.

How do we share the truth of salvation with people from other religions in a Biblical way?

First show them the law then the grace of salvation.

Jesus used the Ten Commandments to bring conviction of sin. He always did this with deep compassion, love and kindness for the individual He was ministering to. We must follow in  Jesus’ example, never be rude, aggressive or dogmatic, always listen to the person’s heart carefully then Father God can give you wisdom on how to reach them. Be sensitive when using the law. If you just want to blast them with your thoughts, your feelings, your way, and never listen to them you will never reach their heart. Be a listener and minister in love the truth of salvation.

And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God? (the young man recognised His Divinity) Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.  Mark 10:17-19

What does the Bible says about the law the Ten Commandments of God?

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7 (KJV)

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Galatians 3:24 (KJV)

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. No, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Romans 7:7 (KJV)

Now we know that what things so ever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Romans 3:19 (KJV)

Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another. Romans 2:15 (KJV)

We have to remember that the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but when you take the time to shine the light of the Ten Commandments into that persons heart and to expose their sinfulness, then the message of salvation found only in Jesus Christ makes total sense. If a person doesn’t fully understand that they are lost then they cannot understand that they need to be saved.

What is the practical application of this concept?

Once the law has done its work on a person’s heart then that person is ready for salvation. Then and only then will the cross of Christ no longer be foolish to them and then they will hunger for salvation.

If someone says they have not sinned then ask them if they have ever been jealous Coveting others things, if they have ever lied about another person even if it was a little lie or been rude to their parents? Since all have sinned then if they are honest they will admit that they have broken at least one or more of the commandments which means that they have sinned.

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend (stummble) in one point, he is guilty of all.  James 2:10 (KJV)

The law will cut through all the clever religious arguments and the Holy Spirit will convict the heart of the person hearing it.

They may not admit it but the seed of Gods truth has been planted. They will start to think about it and the Holy Spirit will work on their hearts when they are alone and quiet. If they admit that they are sinful and express a desire to be right with God then you can take some time to carefully explain salvation found only in Jesus Christ. Use a good aid like the Romans road or a well produced salvation tract; always show them the scriptures in the Bible.

If a person in another religion does not understand that they are lost they will know that their is sin in their lives. They will not necessarily understand that they need salvation in their lives. The law will show them the sin in their personal lives and that sin brings with it death and separation from Father God. Eventually when they physically die (if they die without the salvation of Jesus Christ) they face the punishment of Hell because the wrath of God remains on them.

When witnessing to other religions remember you do not need to be a doctor to pray for the sick.  It’s interesting to know what others believe but it will not get them saved.

Salvation belongs to the Lord. Psalm 3:8 (KJV)

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power (1  Corinthians 2:1-4).

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?  For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe (1 Corinthians 1:18-21).

You may feel very inadequate sharing about Jesus with other religions but the Lord will help you.  Although I am English I was lead to salvation by an English man of Arab descent who had found salvation in Jesus Christ. People from other religions will not get saved because of our clever preaching, our complex and deep understanding of their religious beliefs. What gets people from other religions saved is the power of God convicting their hearts. This happens when they understand they are sinful and separated from a Holy God by looking at Gods law. The Holy Spirit then draws them into salvation.

Remember if a person from another religion dies without salvation found only in Jesus Christ they enter eternity in hell.

Let’s be quite clear this is the teaching of the Holy Scripture. The trueth of the holy scriptures cannot be got round by lazy heretics who teach the doctrine of satan that hell does not exist and that all people go to heaven, all ways lead to God. If you have been taught this lie please do an open minded study on hell and you will find the truth its not hidden.

Remember Jesus came to save people from other religions to and He needs our participation to share our lives and beliefs with them.

The Son of man has come to seek and save that which was lost. Luke 19:10

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:14 (KJV)

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ (the Messiah), as though God were pleading through us (making His appeal as it were): we implore you on Christ’s behalf (as Christ’s personal representatives), (what we do is appeal on behalf of the Messiah) be reconciled to God (and lay hold of the divine favour now offered to you). 2 Corinthians 5:20 (KJV)

We have a divine responsibility a calling to share the truth of Christ:

Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” (John 14:6)

If we believe the truth of the Holy Scriptures that there is a heaven and a hell then we can not ignoring the spiritual condition of the people around us who are lost in different religions!

Now Show them the Grace of God

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 (KJV)

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 10:9-11 (KJV)

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Romans 4:5 (KJV)

The Bible teaches that after Jesus’ sacrifice at the Cross, Father God imputes righteousness not to those who strive to obey the law.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16

Father God makes righteous anyone who believes in His Son Jesus Christ and accepts salvation because Christ took our sins on the Cross and gave us His righteousness.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

The moment we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, Father God treats us as righteous apart from our works or our obedience.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Romans 4:5-8 (KJV)

This is the righteousness that Father God gives to all Christians; it’s a righteousness that comes by faith and not by our own self-righteous works.

We are not righteous because of our obedience to religious rules or strict observations or sacrificial personal acts, we are made righteous solely by the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us all. At the Cross a divine exchange happened Jesus took our place, He did not deserve to be made sin but He was made sin in our place. We did not deserve to be made righteous but we are righteous because we receive His righteousness when we accept Him as our personal Saviour and Lord.

When reaching out to men and women in other religions use a good Scripture aid like the “Romans road” or “How to Know Gods Salvation” alternatively use a tract that clearly explains salvation to help you.  Please seesharing the gospel and the prayer of salvation where the above are located at the foot of the page.
