Sharing The Gospel With Hindu People

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; Acts 17:24-25 (KJV)

If we want to present a powerful gospel message then we must remove all the gimmicks, all the wisdom of the world and preach the clear message of salvation found only in Jesus Christ God the Son.

The United Kingdom has opened its doors to many Indian and Hindu peoples from around the world. India and Great Britain are close friends and the make-up of UK society reflects that. Our response as Christians and as the Local UK Churches must be to reach out to Hindu people with the gospel of salvation found only in Jesus Christ.

You probably have many Hindus in your community who are open to hearing about Jesus Christs salvation. Read witnessing at work to understand the fishing method of evangelism and begin to pray about Hindus you know, start to identify those who seek to know Father God. Place bait (little stories about how Father God has healed you or protected you) in conversations with them. Hindu people will happily talk to you about God.

Witnessing to Hindus can be challenging but as you reach out to Hindus, explain that Mighty God creator of all things is a jealous God, He alone is God and provides everything for His people. Father God is God of all our affairs spiritually, physically, mentally and socially and financial. When you share the gospel with Hindu people explain that the 330 million gods (idols) cannot save them. Explain that the only way to experience fullness of life here and eternal life with the Father God after death is through accepting salvation found only in Jesus Christ.

In India there is a growing church revival and increasing numbers of Hindus from around the world are finding salvation in Christ. The church in India now has more than 70 million people attending. India has the world’s eighth-largest Christian population.

The thing most Christians find hard is how to start a conversation that leads to them being able to share the message of salvation. It is easier with Hindu people because they are open to talk about spiritual things. Although they are caught up in idolatry the light of the gospel will always shine in a persons heart. Talk to the person not their religion, always talk to their heart because Father God wants to change their heart and fill it with His love.

How do I share the gospel with Hindu people?

Its simple really invite your Hindu friend for a coffee or tea. Invest time in building a friendship with them, with the focused aim of sharing the message of salvation. Let your conversations always include what Father God is doing in your life. Try and talk to them about spiritual things, how God has blessed you with salvation, healing or deliverance.

Listen very carefully to the things that they say, their heart will overflow and you will gain an understanding about them. By listening you will be able to judge when they are open to the hearing the full gospel message.

When you spend time in conversation with a Hindu friend and they tell you their needs explain how Jesus Christ can meet those needs.

One of my Sikh friends suffered from restricted wrist movements due to both wrists being broken, we invited him to a healing meeting  and he received healing (he is now a Christian).

My wife was sharing Jesus with her friend. The friend explained that in the past she had suffered physical and mental abuse which had left her suffering years of depression and sickness. We explained that she could be set free if she gave her life to Jesus Christ,  she asked us to pray with her, when we prayed the Lord delivered her from depression and healed her arthritis. She became a wonderful Christian full of love and life because of Father Gods grace.

If you want to start a conversation with the Hindu friend ask about their family, how is your mother, father, wife, or children? Ask about their needs, are they sick or experiencing any problems in their lives?

If for example their Mother was sick, offer to go and pray for her healing, explain that Jesus was wounded for our sicknesses paying the price for our healing, by His wounds we are healed. Explain that in His name we can lay hands on the sick and they will recover, show them the scriptures. It may be a very practical need where you can offer to help.

Once you identify the needs in that Hindu persons life its important to ask questions.
Are you stressed or worrying about this issue? Show concern and kindness and offer to pray for them straight way. If they accept your pray out of respect do not lay hands on a Hindu woman and only lay hands on the shoulder of a Hindu man. Explain that Father God knows all about them even how many hairs are on their head, He knows them and is opening a door (explain Jesus is the door) for them to know Him  (explain that their is only one true God). Pray and ask Father God to meet their need and ask Father God to open their heart to His love. Explain that Father God loves you and when you pray He will answer. Tell them that both the pray and answer are a gift of grace. Its better to know the One true God who gives these gifts to us. You can offer to lead them  in a prayer of salvation if they are open to this prayer. Before you leave your Hindu friend arrange to meet them again soon. Continue to talk about your Christian experience, share your testimony and give them a Bible (preferably in their first language). Continue to pray for your Hindu friend everyday asking Father God to draw them to Himself through salvation in Jesus Christ.

Basic overview of Hinduism

Hinduism encompasses the beliefs of dharma (ethical duty), samsara (cycle of reincarnation), karma (cause and effect of actions), and moksha (salvation by more than one path). Hindus traditionally have a triune view of god: Brahma the creator god; Vishnu the preserver god; and Shiva, the destroyer god. Almost all of the over 300 million Hindu gods relate back to one of these three aspects of god, but mostly to Shiva and Vishnu. The goal of a Hindu’s life is to build up enough good karma to attain freedom from samsara and join with god. There are more than 800 million Hindus in India alone. About 197 million of those are in people groups unengaged with the Gospel. This means that they have never had the chance to hear the Good News.

Therefore said Jesus unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolvesLuke 10:2-3 (KJV)

Prayer for Hindus

Jesus, Light of the World, your desire is that Hindus recognize Your light as the true light. Open their spiritual eyes to see the darkness in which they walk, the darkness of their sin. Reveal yourself to United Kingdom Hindus that they may walk in the light.

Almighty Father God, Hindus already have a longing for what they call the “supreme sin-destroying light.”

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12 (KJV)

Lord guide them into spiritual and intellectual understanding that Jesus Christ is the light of the world. That only He can forgive their sins and give them freedom spiritual bondage. Jesus you are the way, the truth and the life no one comes to the Father but by you.

Heavenly Father, God of Creation, you have created every person with a desire to know you. The Hindus of the United Kingdom desperately want to know you the powerful God of the universe, the one who created all things. Reveal yourself to them. Help them to understand that you are the one true God, the Creator. Give them the wisdom and courage to reject all the false gods and idols of their religious heritage, and to embrace only you.

Father God, how your heart must grieve to see Hindu people performing meaningless rituals and bowing before man-made idols in their temples and homes. Show them the truth, God, show them your power. Help them realize that there is no power in an idol fashioned by human hands. Teach them how to worship you in spirit and in truth. Open their hearts to experience a personal relationship with you through Christ. Amen
